Notifications
A feature of the Lion Portal is the ability for parents to request e-mail or text message reminders for school announcements (such as emergency or school closed due to weather), games, or schedule changes for their child’s athletic teams and school activities. This functionality must be enabled by the parent, and in terms of game schedules, parents can specify how far in advance they would like to receive game reminders.
School Closed and School Emergency are two announcement categories we recommend all parents activate.
From any page on the Lakeview website, www.lakeviewacademy.com, click the orange LOGIN link. If you have forgotten your user name or password, refer to that tutorial in this issue.
Click your name on the far right in the top navigation bar.
In the resulting drop-down menu, click Settings.
When the page refreshes, click Notifications located on the left under Account Settings.
In the notifications section, you can choose to receive information on a wide variety of topics. Please choose carefully. Also note that you may receive these notifications via email and/or text. If you choose text, it will prompt you for your cell phone number.
E-mail Address
The e-mail address from your Profile Contact Card will appear here. If you see a pencil icon it means that you can change it. If not, you will have to contact the school registrar to make the update for you. Keep in mind that all e-mail communications from the school use this e-mail address.
To change an email address, click the pencil. Update the address and click Save. To delete the e-mail address, click the red x.
Text Messages
To add a text enabled device, click the green plus sign located under “TEXT NUMBER: None Available!"
Enter the device’s phone number, country of service, and provider. This text enabled device is independent from any phone numbers saved in the profile.
Upon saving, an activation code will be sent to your cell phone. Enter the six character MSG: code from the text message into the dialog box and click “Save.” The number and provider can be changed at any time by clicking on the Modify Number/Carrier link.
Once you have enabled your cell phone and/or email address, click the "Setup Options" link next to "Announcement Posted," (see screenshot below).
The “Notification Options” dialog box will open. Select the announcement categories and/or groups to which you want to subscribe. A check mark should appear in the box.
Parents are encouraged to select “School Closed Notification Announcement” and “School Emergency Announcement.”
In addition, if your child is on an athletic team or is in an activity group, (such as robotics, One Act Play, chorus, etc.,), you may want check those group boxes located under "My child's Groups" to receive announcements from your child's group.
Click "Save."
You will be back on the Notifications Settings page. To receive e-mail notifications, check the Email checkbox next to the type of notification you want to receive so that a checkmark appears.
To receive text notifications, check the Text checkbox next to the type of notification you want to receive so that a checkmark appears.
Categories/groups can be changed anytime by clicking the Edit or Setup Options links.
NOTE: You can also call the Communication Director, Sondra Berry, at 770-531-2657 to setup notifications in 90 seconds or less. Please have your cell phone with you if enabling text messaging.
